How's X-Men 2021 Vol. 2's Writing?
The Dialogue
The dialogue is a 1. If Marvel paired him with an X-men historian or a dialogue writer, things would improve. There’s a panel where Rogue refers to Nightcrawler as ‘mah friend.’ ‘Friend’ is a strange way to describe your brother. Laura doesn’t typically think or talk like a female Logan, but she does in X-men.
Showing Versus Telling
There’s a fight scene at the end between Cordyceps Jones and the X-men. It was an opportunity for a big throw-down between Rogue and Wolverine. That didn’t happen. Laura threatens Cordyceps with claws around his neck. He’s alien and a fungus. Even if she cut his head off, would it hurt him?
The Vibe
The writing on X-men by Gerry Duggan is a 4 at best. It’s the little things that pull you out of the moment.
Comic Art Review
The art on X-men is a 10. Pepe Larraz and Javier Pina draw amazing comics. Their styles are so similar that you may not notice which issue is drawn by Javier.
