You wouldn’t like this Viking when he’s angry? In The Mighty Thor #6, Dario Agger was looking for weapons to use against his allies in the Dark Council. Loki launched into a sales pitch about how he helped Boldoz the Viking. See our full review of The Mighty Thor #6.
In This Issue of The Mighty Thor #7
What should have been a cautionary tale for Dario Agger came across as the perfect solution to his current problems. Loki finishes his story of Bodolf who’s fight with Thor Odinson was so epic it draws the attention of the Avengers 1000 AD. You didn’t know there were Viking Age Avengers (Avengers 1000 AD)? I’m not sure anyone did before this issue, but the members looked very interesting.
What Else Happens in this Comic?
In the event that the Dark Council crosses him, Loki is creating alliances. I can’t wait to see if and when they play out.
The Comic's Themes
‘Be careful what you wish for because you might get it’ is the theme of this issue. Bodolf was given is heart’s desire but found the cost of that desire was to lose his very soul. Thor’s desire is to raise Mjolnir (which he can’t at this point in history). Loki’s desire is to become the hero of his own story (rather than a supporting character in Thor Odinson’s story).

How's The Mighty Thor #7's Writing?
The Dialogue
I like it best when Thor has a little Shakespeare to his speech patterns, and we get a lot of that in the Bodolf story. Present day Loki seems genuinely upset by the events he’s put in motion. It’s a big leap from classic Loki to modern Loki. I couldn’t make the stretch, but it wasn’t because Jason Aaron’s words didn’t try to help me. His classic Loki sounds exactly as I remember.
Showing Versus Telling
As a teaser, the cameos by the Avengers 1000 AD were a lot of fun. The concept of the Avengers, a group coming together to fight something bigger than themselves, having been present throughout Earth’s history generally works. I would have preferred an entire issue of them fighting with Thor against Bodolf.
The Vibe
This issue was about as classic Marvel as you could get. Two heroes fist-fighting their way around the world. I couldn’t see any medium outside of comic books handling this story well.
Comic Art Review
If you are a fan of Rafa Garres @Rgarres, you’ll really like this issue. Most of the pages are from the story of Bodolf. There’s a great full-pager of Bodolf sitting on a throne. It reminds me of the Maestro and would make a good poster print. Rafa draws and colors the bigger than life battle between thunder god and monster. His blockier style fits the two warriors well giving them a sense of strength and power.
On the Cover
This is the second of two covers created with similar layouts and style. I was a huge fan of the first and remain so with the second. I really would have liked the entire run of The Mighty Thor to have second printing covers done in this style. It is dynamic. There’s a touch of humor. We get the major characters found in the comic. Russell Dauterman has another winner for his portfolio.
The Comic Panel by Panel
Regular series artist, Russell Dauterman, bookends the Bodolf story with the discussion between Dario and Loki. Loki’s eyes said it all. The dragon’s fate was very sad. VC’s Joe Sabino gives the narrator boxes an extra background. Of course, it’s Loki green. It’s subtle and perfect.
World Building
Bodolf and Thor’s epic battle takes them around the world as their blows send them flying through the skies or through the earth. Somewhere hidden on Earth is the dragon’s lair with its cave drawings.

Loki fans will like it. Thor Odinson fans might like it. Lady Thor fans will wonder where she disappeared to during this story.
I Need More Content like The Mighty Thor #7
You can find more Rafa Garres art on Instagram or Facebook.
You can find the Avengers 1000 AD in King Thor #4 from 2020. Interestingly, Gorr also makes an appearance in this series. Gorr the God-Butcher is rumored to be the main villain in Thor Love and Thunder.
Should You Buy This Comic Book?
I'm sure we'll see a pay-off for the Bodolf story sometime before the Mighty Thor ends. It could have been a single issue for me or spread across several issues as one scene among many. I'm buying The Might Thor to see Lady Thor so her absence was very noticeable. Loki had some good scenes. Dario's a bit of a throw-away villain for me.
