Catch-up on Last Issue
When the Ultimate Thor finally goes too far, Jane has no choice but to stop him. Can she quell the rage of the War Thor before he destroys the very realms he once hoped to save?
In This Issue of The Mighty Thor #23
Jane pulls Volstagg into Ginnugagap, the void between the Ten Realms, in an effort to stop his rampage. He loses his mind further, and the Thors go to war. With the help of Prince Thor and Agent Solomon, Jane, Lady Thor, is able to bring Volstagg back to himself. And there’s lots of fighting and hammer hitting.
What Else Happens in this Comic?
Prince Thor is confronted by Roz Solomon. At some point, they were an item. Since then Prince Thor went on a quest to find the Ultimate Mjolnir. He was successful, but Roz is feeling like he let her go. It’s a touching scene that hits on the b-story of ‘all the things lost in the pursuit of Mjolnir’s power’.
The Comic's Themes
Redemption and forgiveness seem to run throughout the issue. Volstagg, angry and corrupted by the Ultimate Mjolnir, believes the only way to end the war is to destroy the dark elves. Lady Thor, Jane Foster, believes to end the war she has to show the denizens of the Ten Realms they don’t need to fight or be afraid of the Asgardians.

Comic Art Review
Looking at the art in The Mighty Thor #23, you can see why Valerio Schiti has become a superstar at Marvel Comics. The list of accomplishments in this issue is long.
- Full-page, double-spread hammer fights
- Character acting
- Multiple locations
- Long list of different characters and creatures
- Environments
- Emotions: fear, anger, rage, sadness, pain
- Character scale (Jane is so much shorter than Volstagg)
- Melee fighting
You’ll find yourself flipping through this issue over and over gawking at the beautiful artwork.
On the Cover
On the comic cover by Russell Dauterman, our Mjolnir looks puny next to Ultimate Mjolnir. Lady Jane has the upperhand, but War Thor has the size and strength. The close-up of the titan’s clash is dynamic.
The Comic Panel by Panel
Last issue, new colorist Rain Beredo handled parts of the issue. With The Mighty Thor #23, Rain graduates to the full issue, and we’re glad he did. In the first pages of the issue, the Thors are at war in the void Ginnugagap. In the Ten Realms, the fight is seen as a lightning tear in the sky. It’s all color, and it’s beautiful making the story so much bigger. In addition to the lighting effects, the colors are vibrant and spot on.
I feel like each time I look at the word balloons, Joe Sabino is doing something new. There’s a fair bit of shouting in this issue and those word balloons have an extra line emphasis as a call-out. Did you miss them? Watch when the War Thor is screaming.

Who Will Like The Mighty Thor #23?
If you dig the Asgardian myth realms, this is the issue for you. We visit points across the Yggdrasil with quick one page scenes. Seeing the bigger Thor universe is always fun and adds a lot to the scope of the comic.
I Need More Content like The Mighty Thor #23
If you buy the trade of the War Thor, the last issue in the trade was from a cross-over series called Generations. In Generations: The Unworthy Thor & The Mighty Thor (2017) #1, the newest version of a character, Lady Thor in this case, was sent back in time to interact with and gain insight from their predecessor, a very young Prince Thor. The issue is drawn by superstar Mahmud Asrar and written by our favorite Thor writer, Jason Aaron. Buy it for the Odin b-story.
What was I missing?
When and how did Balder become King of Niffleheim, land of the dead? There wasn’t time in the issue to explain, but I needed something to tell me how he got to this position. Last I saw him, Balder was reigning in Odin’s place.
Should You Buy This Comic Book?
It's a quiet ending to War of the Thors, but a good one that showed us why Jane Foster makes a great Lady Thor. This was a fantastic arc with some of the best art we've seen in the series. Buy it. Buy all of it.
